NEW ZEALANDERS IN LONDON
PROVISION FOR THEIR WELFARE - MR. JAMIESON'S ASSERTIONS CONTRADICTED (Rec. January 4, 8 p.m.) London, January 3. • The Y.M.C.A. officials declare that Mr. Jamieson's speech at Christchurch, that nothing was being done for New Zealanders, was absolutely incorrect. Men are met at the stations and taken to the Shakespeare hut, near the British Museum, where 320 beds aro provided. A programme of sight-see-ing and entertainment is arranged, and meals supplied covering the whole period of leave. The London hostels accommodated 16,900 soldiers from all parts of the Empire last week. The same system is followed in the £h)vinces. Mr. Jamieson, the officials says, must not expect the greatest city in the world to be like a New Zealand glade under the tree ferns._ Mr. Henry, the Commissioner of Police, has declared the speech to be a gross exaggeration, and fails to place the blame on the right should-ers.—Aus.-N.Z.
