OBITUARY
MR. DAVID ANDERSUN. I Mr; David Anderson, sen., whoso I health has been precarious for the past\ four or ijvo months, died at his residence, Hankey Street, on Wednesday, in his eighty-third year. Mr. David Anderson, was the sou of the late Mr. David Anderson, one of the pioneers of Wellington, and a _ man who formany years was associated with the early business life of the little town. He arrived in Wellington from England by the ship Pilgrim _ in the year 1849, bringing with him his two eldest eons, the elder being the late Mr. David Anderson, whose death is here recorded. The deceased, with' his brother, Mr. Edward Anderson (still in business in Willis Street) were associated with their father in the business.(in "Willis Street) that he had % established, and when after the first twenty-one years of the lease had expired, Mr. Edward Anderson continued to carry 011 011 tho old site, and Mr. David established himself in the early '60's in Molesworth' Street, conducting thfe business of grocery and general merchandise for the last twenty years on a large scale. Though he never went in for pfiblic life, tho late Mr. David Anderson was a most energetic man, oven up to a year or 'two ago. He was one of the directors of the ola Wellington and_Manawatu Railway Company, the Wellington Gas Company (of which ho was, acting-chairman of directois during tho absence in England of Mr. David Nathan), the Equitable Building and Investment Company, and the Gear Meat Company. Ho was a good churchman, and for many years was a churchwarden of St, • Paul's Pro-Cathedral. It is understood that the. deceased leaves a be« quest of £3500 for the Church funds. Mr. Anderson (whoso wife died four years ago) leaves a family of three sons and threo daughters—Dr. A. L. Anderson (formerly of Wellington, and now serving in Mesopotamia), Messrs. David and Ernest Anderson (who havo been associated 'with their father in the Molesworth Street business), and Mrs. Shaw, of Auckland. Tho deceased's brothers are Messrs. Edward Anderson (of Willis Street), Mr. Alan Anderson (of Kent Terrace), and Mr. John Anderson (of Karori). His sisters aro Mrs. Ballance, of Wanganui, (widow of tho late Hon. John Ballance, formerly Premier of New Zealand); Mrs. Annie Anderson, of - Wcllingtou, and Mrs. Foreman, of Wanganui. The funeral will leave the late residence of the deceased in Hankey Street at 9.30 a.m. to-day for St. Paul's ProCathedral, where a short service will bo held prior to interment in tho Syd> Street Cemetery.
