SUCCESSFUL ATTACK BY THE FRENCH MANY PRISONERS AND GUNS. CAPTURED (Rec. January 1, 8.35 p.m.) . London, December 31. An Italian official report stages:— "After intense artillery firing in the Monte Tomba sector, the French stormed positions between Osteria di Monfenerl and Maranzino firmly, and took prisoner U officers and 1348 men and captured 60 machine-guns, seven cannon, and other material. The English and Italian batteries and airmen co-operated. The enemy last night for the thiril timo bombed Padua., Scores of bombs were dropped. Artislic monuments severely suffered.. Thn cathedral facade was blown down."— Aus.-N.Z. Cablo Asßn.-Reuter. ENEMY ADMISSION, (Rec. January 1, 8.35 p.m.) London, December 31. A German official report states:— "Thero have been violent artillery and mine-nrinir duels on Monte Tomba llidge. Tho French attacked and penetrated parts of the tiosition." / . An Austrian official report adds:— "Counter measures on Monte Tomba aro being prepared."—Aus.-N.Z. Cablo Assn.-Reuter.
