There, was glorious weathor for the second day of tho Auckland- ivaoing Club's Summer Meeting, and an excellent attendance. Desert Gold put up an Australasian record in the Islington Plate. The sum put through tho totalis.xtor was £69,994, against £55,196 10s. for the corresponding day of last year, au increase of £14,797 tOs.. The total for the two days was £150,979, against £126,631 10s. for the firat two days last year, an increase of £24,097 10s. Stilts, a member of J. Williamson's team, was favourite in tho Bowen Handicap, with Keep Watch, a runner in the Railway Handicap as second choice. The favourite drew the rails, and, beginning smartly, Ihe result was never in doubt. Mossmari was always'handy, and finished In second place. Once more Carmen Sylva b. at Woody Glen for third place. Desert Gold and Estland were opposed by .Hopfield In the Islington Plate. The race was the usual affair when the champion is in action. She just jumped to tho front and' the issue was never, in doubt. The time, lmin. 37 3-ssec, is an Australasian record. Desert Gold previously held tho Kew Zealand mile record (lmin. 38 2-ssec), which she established in 1916 in the same race, beating such good performers as 6aaanof, The Toff, and Egypt. The mare has now won the Islington Plate three times in succession, her times for the races being: 1915, lmin. 395e0.; 1916, lmin. 38 2-5 see; and 1917, lmin. 37 3-sscc. Hymestra was much better backed than any of the two-year-olds in the Royal Stakes. He drew No. 2 at the barrier, and was soon in front, with Bo Peep. He led into the straight from Pontoon, with the others in a bunch. In- the run home the three-year-old easily held-his own and won by a length from Bo Peep. Finmark came up with a' rattle, and got third place. Rekanui and Demagogue, were next. The last-named was on the rails at-the barrier, but he failed to begin, and. was Boon in. the rear.

Fisher was again entrusted with" a lot of support in'the Ponsonby Hurdles, but once more fenced badly, and was nearly down on several occasions. Glendalough set a fast pace for a mile, with Gluepot and Tenacious next.' At the half-milo Gluetanus took charge, and, fencing .well, ran in an easy winner from Glendalough. Tenacious was two lengths away, and then came Gluepot and Fisher, with the others 6 furlong away.

King Lupin is always a great favourite with the Auckland public and to-day .his defeat in the Summer Oup was not spoken of. He started a good. favourite, and, leading all the way, won by- a couple of lengths from Polydamon, who was a head In front of Eed Ribbon, with Vagabondfourth. At the Start the favourite jumped to the front; and led out of. the straight under a pull. On the top bend he put a break on the field, and at. the six furlongs : was well clear. Vagabond tried to reduce the gap, gaining to the half-mile, and across the bottom Eed Eibbon ran into second.place. Entering the straight,-Poly-damon was well b'a'clt, but ho put In a srreat run'and beat all but the winner, A Breat reception was accorded him on re-. turning" to weigh in. Long Range and First Eain was the orHer of favouritism in the Criterion Handicap, and the Ohokebore colt duly prevailed. Killowen led into the straight, with Canzonet handy, : but once heads were turned for home the favourite came through on tho fence and won easily. Killowen bored badly in the straight. First Eain ran disappointingly. Glendower. was withdrawn from the Waitemata. Handicap, and Lord Kenilworth ■was made.a good favourite, but he failed to handle the weight, and was'easily beaten by both British Arch and Demotic. Blipstitch was fourth. Glenopal, Glendower, TVaiuta, Meltchikoff, and Hendra were all heavily backed Jn the Salisbury Welter. After a good re.es Meltchikoff > prevailed from -Waiuta, with Hendra close' up.
