Mr. 6. H. B. Austin, a member of tho Victorian Institute of Architects, has invented an automatic-, balancing airship which he regards as "the future Dreadnought of the air," and as a vehiolo of comfort and safety for passengers, as well as a transport carrier. Models- of it, and photographs of a machine modelled on his plans, and spreading its wings through the air, were exhibited in Sydney. Mr, Austin says that with a 1000 h.p. engine and 10,000 square f.ect of wing, lfc will he' possible on his automatic ■balancing principle to evolve an air-, ship that will trayelup to 200 miles an hour, and will lift 15 tons, or carry 100 passengers in corridor cars, heated and lighted with electricity. The Defence authorities have decided to submit specifications of tho machine to the British authorities. It. is Mr. Austin's claim that a • machine on his principle could outrange tho guns carried-bythe largest superDreadnought Zeppelin. The Salvation Army in- Wellington will shortly commenco a tent campaign on tiie large vacant section next to the Town Hall. A marquee lias been erected for the occasion, electrically lit. The Silver Band is to supply the mnsical accompaniments. The public is invited.
