ENEMY'S THRUSTS ARRESTED
RUSSO-GERMAN PEACE CONFERENCE BOLSHEVIKI EXPOUND THEIR PRINCIPLES FAMINE CONDITIONS IN GERMANY In a special order addressed to the armies under his command, Sir Douglas Haig declares that their victories and successes might well have led to early and complet o victory but' for tho Russian collapse. A bitter struggle is in progress on the Asiago Plateau. The Italians are counter-attacking with vigour and determination, but important positions lie has lat ely captured remain in the enemy's hands. A hitch is threatened in the negotiations between the Bolsheviki and the Central Powers. Tho Russians are demanding the speedy evacuation of occupied territories, and the enemy delegates have deferred their reply. 'Meantime Germany is said to be developing schemes which aim at the establishment of a Germanised monarchy in Russia, or at gaining such control in Petrograd and elsewhere as would facilitate the economic exploitation of the country. Another report declares that Lenin is preparing to flee from Petrograd.
