Writing from Franco to the parents of Lieutenant 11. D. llichardsou (killed iu action on October 4), Major Blair pays-a high tribute to ths doceased ofticer. "It is not because I was his commanding officer," ho says, "that 1 wish to express to you my sincere sympathy in. the loss of your son, who was killed in action on: the 4th October. I looked upon him, though much my junior,- as a helpmate, friend, and comrade, for 1 loved his yinny manly qualities, his attractive and loving personality, and 1 am desolate at his absence, for 1 miss him terribly keenly. It seems too cruel that he should bo taken when there are so many others, and I feel a personal responsibility iu his death. I had selected him, at the inception of the battalion, ns my intelligence officer, and ho not only justified my selection, but proved oi{e of the west valued officers in tho unit, and I fool that I can never replace him. Always obliging, ho was energetic, had rare abilities as a tactician, and always gave his best and showed a conspicuous courage and keen devotion to duty. ■ I miss him and miss him keenly, and I wish to let yon know that fho whole unit feel his loss and wish to sharo your condolence in this awful bereavement. Hβ was struck unconscious and died with a pleasant smile upon -his lips. His was a splendid Hfo and he died as gloriously as he had lived—a gallant gentleman.'' His Majesty tho Baby whon over six months eld can bo given no bettor food than DOCTORS' CREAM O , GROATS.Advt.
