THIRTY-THIRD REINFORCEMENTS
EXTRA LEAVE AND •CHRISTMAS CHEER. According to present arrangements the Thirty-third Reinforcements will not be among those troops who are to spend Christmas at home.. But the men of the senior draft are having compensations in the form of extra leave from duty. Yesterday afternoon a troop train which left Trentham Camp at 1.20 brought the Thirty-thirds to town 011 leave till lato in the evening. To-day, there will be a sports meeting at Trentham, for -which a lengthy programme has been drawn up. To-morrow will be a busy day at Trentham. A special train will carry next-of-kin to'the camp, and a Christmas dinner for the troops has Veen arranged for by Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Luke. As on past occasions, the Mayor and Mayoress are waking a special effort to provide Christmas cheer in unstinted measure. Mr. Luke communicated with the Mayors of Auckland, Chrisfchurch, and Dunedin, who responded readily to the proposal that they should be associated with the 'capital city, in the scheme of hospitality. The plan to be followed will be to send a hamper well stocked with good things to each hutment. The contents of all these hampers will be exactly the same, including everything vsually considered essential in Christmas celebrations. There will be all-day leave for the Thirty-thirds on Saturday, the troop train leaving the camp at 9 a.m., and returning late at night. It is also possible that a special train may be put on on Sunday to carry relatives and friends of the men out to Trentham.
