THE JEWS AND PALESTINE
Sir,—ln your interesting leader in Thursday's Dominion you refer to the dream of the Jews and others, of the "Jews' return to Palestine," ' and in one place you mention that the "boldest, most picturesque, and most romantic dream of our time is that which proposes to resettle the Jews in Palestine, and revive a separate independent national Jewish State in Judea." Now, I suppose the chief foundation of tin's general dream is derived from the Scriptures. But from my very little knowledge of Scripture I think that it was nowhere prophesied that the Jews, of themselves, were ever to regain possession of the Promised Land, but that it was only with the House of Israel, or under their protection, as it were, that the return was to take place. Now, it is well to remember that the Jews do not comprise the "House of Israel." Just as nil Scotchmen are Britishers, but all Britishers are not Scotchmen, so all Jews were Israelites, but all Israelites were not Jews. And the history of and prophesies regarding these two peoples were very different. The main prophecies oti which the dreams you mention- are based, I fancy, are that the Jews ivere to return with the Israelities, but not as a separate independent kingdom.—l am, etc., BRIT.
