(Continued from Page i) An Afternoon Tea at the Town Hall. The year's activities of the Mayoress's Countess of Liverpool Fund Committee and their helpers were broughi to the cheeriest of conclusions yesterday afternoon, when the- Mayoress (Mrs. J. P. Luke) entertained them at afternoon tea in the City Council Chambers, the scene of their unremitting labours. Work, or most of it, had been put away, and in its place were flowers—gaillardias, clarksia, and others decorating the tea table. In the course of a very feeling little speecli Mrs. Luke paid' a warm tribute to the committee and their helpers, and said she know that all they had been doing was done for love of the cause, that ol bringing comfort' and remembrance tc the brave lads who were fighting and enduring hardships and suffering witli such cheerfulness and courage. Mrs, Luko also paid a tribute to the worli of the lion.- secretary (Mrs. A. Crawford) and the lion, treasurer (Mrs, J, Findlay), and also eulogised tliat ol Mrs. Murphy, who wae one of the most constant workers at the Town Hall, and was heart and soul for the work. They all looked upon her as "Grandmother," and wet or fine she war always to be relied upon to do her share. Mrs. Luke concluded by wishing everyone present every possible good wish for the coming year. The afternoon ended with the singing of "God be with You till We Mec.l (Again." Mrs. Massey was among those who were present. Y.W.C.A. Notes. A Christmas message to girls will be given by the llev. 11. Watson tomorroiv auernoon at 4.15 at the Y.W.C.A., Fowlds , Buildings, Manners Street. Carols will be rendered by the Lyric Club, under the direction of Mr. F. S. Pope. All girls and younj; women are- invited to tlia service and to the Christmas tea following. Any strangers to the city will receive a special welcome. The Pathfinders' Gke Club will give a concert at the Y.W.C.A. Club Rooms, Fov/lds' Buildings, Manners Street, on Tuesday evening next at 7.30. Mr. W. B. Strong will be the conductor, and an attractive programme has beer arranged. All parents and friends arc invited to be present. This evening at the Y.W.C.A. Clur Rooms, Fowlds' Buildings, Herbert Street, the programme of entertainment has been arranged by Mrs. Percj Woods and Miss Still. Mrs. Campbell and Mrs. Pearson, mejnbers of the Board of Directors, will be present, These Saturday evening entertainments are specially arranged for soldiers from camp, to whom a cordial invitation tc be present is given. Among the items which were much appreciated last weeli were "Imitations" by Mr. Knowlea and Miss Fathers, _ "Spring Song" by Miss Marjorie Bennie, and a clover charactei sketch by Mr. Oswin. All Y.W.O.A. members and their, men friends are invited. A School Entertainment. Tho annual breaking-np entertainmonfc of the kindergarten and school, "lleigel House," was held in the Goring Street Hall on Thursday evening by. the Misses Morton-Clark. There was a large attendance of parents and friends, who appeared to greatly finjoy tho entertainment. To welcome the visitors seven of the children, each carrying a letter of tho word "welcome," came forward one by one upon the stage, and recited a vorse beginning with tho letter which was carried, finishing with a chorus of welcome. Scarf drill followed, after whic? tho whole school sang "We're a Happj Band." Several action songs and kindergiirton games were given by the smaller children, also a song-toast, "The Bread," by the lower school, and a song, "The Windmill," by the children of the upper school. JuliotMan's recited "The Reason Why" and "A Little Girl's Trouble"; Mandy Marie contributed a little- story, "My GeoGee," and Warwick Allen gave a "Fisli Tale." Joyce Robortson recited "Tommy's First Day at School" and "Going on an Errand," and. with Diana Roberts, took part in the duet, "I Don't Want to Piny in Your Yard." "Playmates" was a pretty little acti/in sons' find dance, Joyce Staples and Juliet Man's dancing. Some chorus songs wore also a very Attractive feature of tho programme, which pruW with the singing of "Off for the Holidays." The Rnv. A. M. Johnson presented the nri7/>s to tho children.
