THE WAR SITUATION REVIEWED
CAMBRAI, PALESTINE, AND ITALY
(Rcc. December 13, 8 p.m.) London, December 12. A high military authority, roviewing llio situation, says that the readjustments of tho Cambrai front has been accomplished, wi'tli a considerable area in our favour, including tho wholo of tho Hindenburg defences. Tho onemy has no defences on tho ground we evacuated, and, with winter arriving, all odds aro ill our favour. It is too early yet to give tho reasons why our old front gave way whero it did. Thoro has been a good deal of criticism about want of co-ordination. When tho Cambrai hattlo started the enemy had a number of divisions free owing to the Russian situation. Cambrai atthese free forces, and so beno/Hed Italy. What was that but coordination? Regarding Palestine,-lie emphasised that tho real difficulty of the campaign was not lighting the Turks, but the conquest of tho desert. Tho troops at Gaza and Jerusalem woro drinking water brought from Egypt over 150 miles of desert. In Italy the enemy had gained little ground of any importance.—Aus.-N.55. Cablo Assn.
