POST AND TELEGRAPH OFFICERS
WELLINGTON SECTION OF ASSOCIATION. At a meetilig of the Post and Telegraph officers last night, the following resolutions were carried unanimously"This Wellington Section of the Post and Telegraph Officers' Association strongly protests against tlio postponement of reclassification from next year until 1020. The number of officer's employed by the Department who, after five and six years' service, still find themselves drawing less than a living wage, is out of all proportion, and far exceeds the numbers similarly placed in private employment. It calls publio attention to the number of resignations from the service during the last twelve months, and attributes tins wastage of trained and experienced employees to the low rates of pay ruling, and to the poor prospects-for makine a career. As outside occupations are being freely reclassified per medium of the Arbitration Court, it considers the Post and Telegraph servant has been poorly treated by having his claims to reclassification postponed for two years." "This section endorses the action of the executive committee in bringing directly to the notice of members of Parliament the claims of the Post and Telegraph married officers to a war bonus equal to that paid to the railway married man. As the two classes of employee are finding it equally difficult to make ends meet with the sovereign down to 13s. 7d., they should have been treated aiiKe as regards the bonus."
