Corporal R. T. F. Marsden, of the Thirty-ninth Field Artillery, N.Z.E.F., and late shipping clerk at Messrs. Wright, Stephenson and Co., was 011 Saturday last met by the staff of the firm and presented with a leather waistcoat. The presentation was made by the managing director, Mr. James Macintosh, m a very complimentary speech. Corporal Marsden suitably acknowledged the gift and tho kindly feelings which prompted it.
Mr. J. E. "White, a well-known Dunedin builder and an ox-city councillor, died on Sunday. One of his sons is Mr. Henry E. White, who has built many theatres in New Zealand and Australia. The late Mr. White was a keen bowler, and was a warm advocate of friendly societies. Ho was born in Southampton in 1853, and came to Duncdin in 1875.
Private It. K. Walker, killed in action. was the youngest son of Mr. H. J. Walker, of Gisborne, and nephew of Mrs. Henry Smith, Chilton House, Wellington. Prior to enlisting last April in the Rifle Brigade, Twenty-sev-ontli Reinforcements, ho was engaged in farming work in the Tokomaru district, East Coast.
