TIMBER WORKERS
COMPLETE AGREEMENT ARRIVED AT. A new agreement between the Wellington Timber Yards and Sawmills Employees' Union and the employers was arrived at after a sitting which occupied the greater part of yesterday. Sitting with the Conciliation Commissioner (Mr. W. H. Hagger) were Messrs. William Hopkirk, M. J. Quirk, S. Tanloy, M. Stone, for the employers, with Mr. W. A. Grenfell as representative, and Messrs. A. Wilkinson, J. Read, and John Dowdall for the union.
The now scale of wages agreed to was as follows First machinists, Is. 6(1. per hour; other machinists, Is. 4t1.; first sawyer, Is. 5d.; other sawyers, Is. 3(1.; box-makers and coopers, Is. 3d.; head yardmen, £3 7s. 6d. per week; yardmen, Is. 3-Jd. per liour; yard labourers, Is. 3d.; casual labourers, Is. 3d. Ten per cent, extra on foregoing rates to be paid as a war bonus during the currency of the agreement, which will cover a period of two years from January 2 next. The agreement will be made an award under the Conciliation and Arbitration Act in duo course.
