The. Commissioner submitted a statement showing cost of Kopanu Settlement, also .valuations of fourteen lots therein as made by surveyor. It was resolved to adopt'trie capital values as fixed by the surveyor and to recommend them for approval. . A report was received from the ranger as to the improvements on Lots 6 and 7, Block X, Rangataua V.S. It was resolved to re-offer the section on renewal lease at present annual rent of £3 Bs., with loading for improvements reduced to £75.
With reference to P. J. Murphy's interview with the board on Octobor 25, and to his complaint that another had not transferred back to him the leaso ol pastoral run in ltaketapauma Block, in which he was formerly a partner, a statement giving full particulars of th& transaction was submitted to the hoard for perusal, and it was resolved to take no action in the matter.
An application for an area of 25 acres of Crown land in Block 111, Gorge S.D., was received from the adjoining owners, Messrs. Lovelock Bros. ' It was resolved to recommend that they be allowed to purchaso il for cash under Section 131 of the Land Act, 1908, at the ranger's valuation. L. Anderson applied for a permit to occupy part of Section 39, Block VIII, Belmont, 56 acres 2 roods, from year to year. It was resolved to grant it at a rent of £17 per annum. The Ohakuno Agricultural and Pastoral Association applied for a lease of Section 31, Ohakuno Suburbs, ]C acres 0 roods 28 perches, with the, view of using it for purposes of access until a proper branch road is constructed. It was resolved to allow them to occupy on a permit from yeai to year under Section 130 of the Land Aofc, 1008, at a rent of £3 per annum. Mrs. E. Gannonsway applied for a permit to occupy sections 1, 2, 3, 5, Block VII, Mataroa Township. It wft j resolved to grant it from year to year under Section 130 of Lho'Lnnd Act 1908, at a Tent of £2 10s. por annum! subject to the usual conditions. A .report was received from tli6 ranger as to the method pursued bv the lessee of Section 2, Puterine Settlement, in the working of his holding. It was resolved to advise the said sottler that he must discontinue at once to employ others to do the work which, in order to obtain profitable results from his holding, ho should do himself. A letter was received from J. Flower asking whether he could lot tho grazing of. his section 13, Tiraumea Settlement,
357 acros 2 roods, for a period of 12 months. lb was resolved to allow him to do so on terms stated, provided lit remains in continuous residence on the I section and pays rent promptly on the date when it becomes due. | E. It. Quinlan, lesson of section 25a, Mukowai Settlement, inquired whether, having paid his whole year's rent, ho is entitled to the usual rebate. It was resolved in the circumstances to recommend that ho lie granted a remission under Section 7 of the Discharged Soldiers' Settlement Act, 1915, equal to what the rebate would have been u the second half-year's rent had been Paid within the required time. With reference to the board's resolution of October 25, lf)17, with regard to James Rourigan's leasehold interest in subdivisions acquired by tho Crown in_ Mnnaia, No. 107, a letter was received from him stating the amount for —hich lie would surrender his said interest. It was resolved that tho board cannot see its way to recommend the purchase of his leasehold interest. A Teport was received from, the ranger on section 33, fllook 11, Mangaone, iiO acres, which has been offered to the Government by the O.R.P. licensee thereof, with the view of its being allotted to a discharge soldier. It was resolved to adjourn consideration until a discharged soldier with sufficient capital makes application under Section ? (b) of tho Discharged Soldiers!- Settlement Amendment Act, 1917.
C. Carlson applied for a renewal of his lease of pastoral run, Rakotapatima. Block (.Aloawhango 1 and Maurigakaretu S.D.), 1350 acres.' It was resolved to recommend that ho be granted a renewal of the lease for a period of one year from March 1, 1918, at the. rent hitherto paid, 'viz., £182 per annum.
