Tho following particulars of tho goods traffic through tho Panama Canal from August 35, 19M, the dato when it wag opened for use, to January 1, 1917, will to of interest. Tho aggregate of tonnage passing through the canal during that pdiod waß 11,652,405. tons. Nitrate laden ships represented 23 per cent, of this total; coal accounted for V per cent.; petroleum for 5 per cent,; and sugar for 5 per cent.
