AMERICAN EMBARGO ON NEUTRALS

HOLLAND'S PROTEST

ARB THE DUTCH FEEDING

GERMANY ?

Tha Hague, November 25. Dr. T. Cort van der Linden, Premier of Holland, in an interview with a United Press correspondent, ssid. — "America is detaining tho ships rf small neutrals and is withholding foodstuffs and raw materials. Consequently we are without bread, and suffer most seriously from unemployment. Can you wonder that we resent America's attitude? We have given guarantees that imported cereals will not bo re-exported, though our own' diro requirements are the best guarantee wo could offer. Holland exports to Germany some dairy and agricultural products as compensation for coal, iron, potash, and cliemical products received from Germany; but these are offered to both belligerents in equal proportions. This is the only policy possible to neutral country which wants to maintain friendly relations with its neighbours and needs them owing to its geographical position a'hd its economic structure. Our exports to Germany aro so small compared with Germany's population that we cannot understand the talk of 'Holland feoding Germany.' Wo do not believe that America wants us to break off our commercial relations with Germany, and to force Holland into a one-sided economic policy which wGuld kill the vital conditions of independence. We believe this explanation will be satisfactory: and we merely ask that Holland shall be treated according to tho principles which America wants to prevail among the nations."—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
