FOOD RATIONS IN BRITAIN
A LAST WARNING CHOICE WITH THE PUBLIC London, November 21. Lord Rhondda (Food Controller), speaking in the House of Lords, in reply to Lord Lamington, said he hoped that compulsory rationing would bo avoided, but if during the next ijew weeks the public failed to respond to the present appeal to adopt voluntary rationing compulsion must come. There was no fear whatever of a famine, but there might be a scarcity.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. .;.:.'. . The British Director of Food Economy (Sir A. K.Yapp). in his national voluntary rationing scheme, proposes the following allowances:— Bread.—Persons engaged in heavy industrial and agricultural work: Men, .811). per week; women, 51b. per week. Ordinary manual workers: Men, 71b. per week; women, 411). per week. Sedwitary workers and domestics: Men, '"4J11i.; women,' 3Jlb. In addition, all workers will receive: Cereals, other than bread, 120z.; meat,
21b.; butter or fats, 10oz.; sugar, Boz. A previous cable message stated that Sir Arthur Yapp had decided that children were not to be included in the voluntary rationing scheme.
POOLING BUTTER IMPORTS.
London, Novemher 21
In the House of Lords, Lord Rhondda announced that all imported butter would be pooled, and an average price struck at tho New Year. Lord Rhondda states that the butter purchases for 1918 will include 30,000 tons of Australian, 15,000 tons of New Zealand, and 8370 tons of Argentine supplies. —"The Times." " i
