A letter was sent to the Minister of Defence recently by Mr. J. Vigor Brown, M.P., asking why tho candidates of the Auckland Flying School received better treatment than those of the Canterbury School.

Mr. Brown has received the following letter from the Minister of Defence:"I have to acknowledge Teceipt of your letter of November 6 regarding the difference in treatment of tho last lot of pupils from the Auckland and Canterbury flying Schools who went Home. I boff to inform you that eleven officers nml ten cadets sailed with the last reinforcements, tho officers beinp on a different boat to the cadets. The officers were pupils who had entered the Auokland School before, the Canterbury School came into existence, and, therefore, they came under the old conditions from tho Imperial Government, which laid it down that on qualifying they. tceTe to be commissioned and sent to England ns 2nd lieutenants. As to. the endets, eight of these were from the Canterbury School and two from the Auckland School, the latter two'having entered thp Auckland School under the new conditions, which came into operation when the Canter, bury Sohool was opened.
