TRAINING FOR DOMESTIC SERVANTS
SYSTEM OF PROBATIONERS ' AGREED TO. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, November 20. A proposal Bubmitted to tho Arbitration Court by the employer's represenlitive that a- system of training for doniostic servants bn introduced into tho industrial agreement relating (o Auckland private hotels has borne fruit. A conference between representatives of the hotel-owners and thn union was held today, at which tho basis of a system for flio introduction of probationer servants was agreed to. An agreement was drafteft and signed providing that probationers may be allowed in tho proportion of one to overr four servants. The term of probation was fixed at two years, and it was provided that at tho end of the period the employer shall gjvo tho servant a certificate- of proficiency. The employers bind thomsolves to send probationers to technical classes for instruction in domestic science subjects once a ireek for three "hours in tho daytime, also to pay all fees in connection with the classes. It is made a condition of engagemont that the probationer shall attend the classes. The ago of probationers is fixed at from 14 to 17. The scale of wages is to bo 10s. a week for tho first 12 months, 15s. a week for tho third six months, and 17s. M. a week for the fourth. Probationers ai* not to work more than 48 hours in a Treck,_ and are to receive as holiday one day in seven. Under bo circumstances aro they to work ovcrtimo or before 7 a.m. or after 7 p.m. Mr. Justice Stringer, President of the Court, agreed to embody in the award tho terms submitted.
