The "Matin's" correspondent on tho British front states: "Aftor pounding the British first lines at Passchendaele for a week, tho enemy launched his first serious counter-attack. Owing to tho possession of tho heights, the British artillery is ablo lo overlook the enemy's gun emplacements and all his shelters and concentration points. Our guns swept the enemy's roar lines, wiped out his communications, and spoiled his preparations. Our advanced pests, armed with machine-guns, stopped tho Bavanans, iu spite of a fog which gave them shelter. Tho Admiralty reports: "Aircraft attempted to bomb' TJytkorko acrodromo (near Blankenberghe) yesterday, but the high winds prevented them reaching their objectives Wo thereupon bombed the aeroplane sheds at Handzamo (eight miles east of Dixmudo). A French communique states: "A German attack at a point d'apnui north of Volzoek in Belgium, completely failed, the enemy mifforiug appreciable losses.
