The commission which is to be 6et up to investigate the expenditure of tho Defence Department in connection with the war will shortly bo appointed. Prob. übly ■ tho appointment of the members of tho commission would have been made ere this, but for the past ten days the Minister of Defence has been absent from Wellington. As soon as it is pos. siblo to arrange for a full meeting of Cabinet tho matter will probably bo dealt' with. It is understood that thrco commissioners are to be appointed—a chairman and two others. Two names that havo been mentioned as those of likely appointees havo been those of Mr. Peter Burr, of Duncdin, and Mr. A. S. Biss, of Wellington, both accountants and auditors of standing in their profession.
