FOR OUR SAILORS

Sir,—it is impossible to emphasise 100 forcibly tho duty of every citizen of our Empire to contribute liberally to the Sailors' Day Fund. The needs of our soldiers have hitherto almost monopolised our charitable energies. There is no wonder that this is so, seeing that the laTgo majority of the bravo boys wo are sending have been sent as 6oldiere. The performances, too, of tho soldiers havo been more talked about and more dramatic, for their work is done far more in tho limelight than that of tho sailor. But wo must nover forget the services rendered by tho Navy—the faithful, silent sister. Months of daily and nightly watching and weary waiting. The great danger and anxiety, 100, of the constant hunting for tho deadly submarine Without this strenuous guard and watch, the Army would have been powerless. It could never have reached tie front or stayed there had not its communications been protected by its faithful sister. Under these circumstances it behoves us all to contribute liberally' to this fund for the assistance of our brave sailors, who very rarely make any claim on our purses. What a capital idea it would bo if, say, sixty of your readers would contribute .£25 a. piece to the Mayor's fund. I have left my subscription for that umount at the Mayor's office; wight I hope that 59 of your readers will follow this lead. They will never repent it.—l am, 1 etc., GEORGE E. ANSON.
