WELLINGTON GIRLS' COLLEGE SPORTS
A PATEIOTIC I'ETE. Tho Wellington Girls' College was fortunate yesterday in having delightful weather for the combined sports ami garden fete, which were held in the college grounds in aid of the patriotic funds of tho school. Elags and effectively arranged stalls made tho grounds look gay and festive, and Jupp'g Band played selections of music during tho greater part of the afternoon. Many parents, relatives, "old girls," and friends of tho pupils had gathered to see the sports, and some interesting events, in which thero was keen, competition, took place. Tho various stalls for sweets, lakes, and produce, flowers, etc., were all exceedingly well stocked, and appeared lo bo [fell patronisod during tho afternoon. The "old girls" of the college had undertaken to stock and be in charge, of two stalls, ono lor produce and another for cukes, which looked particularly delicious. In charge of tho stalls were tho Misses Newman, Martin, and Norton. The other stalls were as follow —Flowers, Miss Rainsl'orth, Miss Collins, Mm. Chrisp, Miss Boss, and Miss Adlinglon; sweets, Miss Allan, Miss Mueller, and Miss Coad; cool drinks, Miss Gibson aiu. tho college boarders; afternoon tea, Misses Cameron, Ward, Lynch, Gibson, Howes, Kennedy. The central hall !n.<l been converted" into .a tearoom, the tables having been decorated with sweet pons, gladioli, roses, etc., and several of tho girls assisted thoso in chargo. Naturally tho sports collected a large gathering of onlookers. The directors were Miss Mackenzie (sports mistress). and Miss Ramsay Smith (drill instructress). Tho judges were Miss Bathiim, I Miss Macdinrraid, and Miss Hind; tho I starters, Messrs. Martin Luoldo, Mnoken- | zio, and Miss Riimsny Smith, and oilier gontleinen who assisted in various ways were Messrs. Wafkins, Willis, Dadden, Johnson, ,Tudd, and Phelps. Miss Ward and Miss Nownian wore secrofary and treasurer respectively of Iho wholo enterprise. No money has boon spent upon prizes, and all tho forms contributed to box collections as their special effort. Miss M'Lenn, Principal of tho college, was present, and, liko tho members ol tho staff, took an activo part in the 'afternoon's proceedings. The Prize List.
