APPOINTMENT GAZETTED. I An official notice in the Gazette announces that the Hon. Thomas Mason Wilford has been appointed a member of the Executive Council, and has taken the oath of office accordingly, lhe Governor-General has been pleased to appoint him to he Minister of Justice, Minister of Stamp Duties, and Minister of Marine. . The Gazette announces also that tlie Hon. J. A. Hanan has ceased to bo Minister of Justice and that the Hon. G W. Eussell has vacated the ottices or Minister of Stamp Duties and Minister ° M ra the e 'meeting of the City Council last evening the Mayor (Mr. J. P. Luke) toolc an early opportunity to congratu. late Mr. Wilford, an ex-Mayor of thecity, on his elevation to the Ministry Mr. Wilford was a man they all knew intimately, who had practised as a bar. rister in the city. He was a Wellington native, born at the Hutt, and his promotion to Ministerial rank _ wisi m achievement that he and the city shoiild be proud of. Ho moved that Mr. Wilford be heartily congratulated on Jus OTcferment. The motion was seconded ?v Councillor W. H. P. Barber, and carried unanimously.
