The balance-sheet of the National Insurance Company of New Zealand for the year ended September 30, shows that tho 'fire, marine and accident premiums, less reinsurances and returns, amounted to £157,455. The losses amounted to £65,063, and tho expenses totalled £61,393, which included £11,827 Government taxes. These items absorbed £126.458, leaving the underwriting profit, at £30,997, to which has to be added income from interest, rents, etc., £26,635, and tho amount brought forward from the previous year £32,431, making ' available £90,063. Of this amount £30,000 has been added to the reserve fund, which now stands at £250,000, and the dividend at the rate of 12i per cent. (2s. 6d. per share) absorbs £25,000, leaving £35,063 to be carried forward. Customs duty collected at the Port of Wellington on Saturday amounted to £1339 3s. 2d. LONDON MARKETS. The secretary of Mount Greenland Gold Quartz Mining Co., Ltd., reports that for the 13 weeks ending October 29, 1917, the company treated 158 tons 15cwt. for. a return of £919 4s. 6d. The total value of bullion obtained to date is £2881 19s. 9d. A dividend at the rate of 6d. a share was paid on October 1 laßt.
