ANOTHER BIG FIRE
CANTERBURY HALL DESTROYED
BUILDING VALUED AT £21,000 By Telegraph—Press Association. Christchurch, November 11 A great lire occurred iu tho city tonight when Canterbury Hall, comprising Fullers' Vaudeville Theatre (His Majesty's), the Canterbury Industrial Association, and the Canterbury Agricultural and Pastoral Association's Rooms, and Alexandria Hall were destroyed. - Tho building was valued at £21,000. Recently it was offered to the City Council for a Town Hall, but the proposal to buy was rejected by tho ratepayers. In His Majesty's Theatre was tho city organ, presented by the Government to the people of Christchurch after tho '1906 Exhibilion. It was valued at ,£50(10.
The fire started in the dress circle of His Majesty's Theatre.
It toot two hours' hard fighting before the brigades got the mastery. The fresh breeze carried sparks, and the adjoining buildings were in danger for some 'time. Stevens's druggist warehouse, next to the Christchurch "Press" Office, caught, but fortunately the fire was subdued before it got a hold. The insurances are not available.
