I ~ ■ MONEY MARKET. The Bank of England discount rate was on January 2. 1914, reduced from 6 to Hi per cent., on January -22 it was reduced to 4 per cent., and on January 28 3 per cent. On July 3U tne rate was raised to 4 per cent., and on July 31 it was raised : te B per cent., and on August 1 it was further advanced to 10 per cent. On August, 6 the rate was reduced to 6 per cent., on August 7 it wasfurthor roduood to 5 per tent., on July 13, 1916. it was raised to 0 Der cent., on January 12, 1917, it was reduoed to 51 per cent., and on Auril 5 It was further reduced to 5 per cent. OPEN MARKET RATES. The open market discount rate for three months' bills is 4} per cent., as compared -with 4J per ceuti last -week, ana 81 per cent, last year. ' Short loans are quoted at 4J per cent., as against 4} per cent, last -week and 4jj per cent, last year. COLONIAL AND OTHER PRODUCE. Butter—The market is at a standstill in the absence of supplies till a cargo of New Zealand arrives. This is expected next woek. It is believed that tho Government will pay the , difference between the maximum and the shipper's price for Danish, in order to secure Danish supplies. .These lately do not exceed 250 tons per woek. Sugar.—Unchanged. Wheat.—Businoss restricted, little offering. Flour.—ln good demand. No Australian offering. Beans and Peas—Firm, unchanged. Oats.—Loss inquiry. THE - METAL MARKETS.
