This precaution has been applied to overseas shipping for some time past, but recent happenings have made it necessary to take-every possible measure to protect tho shipping. The new dredge at Patea has hcen used for a purposo othor than that of dredging. It has recently been utilised in unloading tome hoavy "lifts" from tho coaßtal stoamers.
