FIERY CROSS WINS JOCKEY CLUB HANDICAP

Entering the straight, the latter was done with, and Missouri '•' become prominent. Over the last furlong ■° Winter Cherry came on the scene and •o easily vanquished the leaders. Subterfuge only beat Kilbrognn by a head. Missouri, Kuripos and Placid finished in a line. For some unknown reason the public preferred Kanna to Impediment in the Oaks, while Kilroa was also well supported. At the start the Demosthenes filly set a strong pace, and the others failed to teach her at any stage of the race. Nanna and Elocution both nut in claims in the straight, but the leader held her owji. and won by four lengths from Naiina. Elocution was a length away, and Kilrea was beaten off. Form Up and Lingerie were evenly backed in the Criterion Handicap, in which all the acceptors went to the post. At the Etnrt Daytime led Wrestler and Lingerie, while Form Up ajain got ofl badly. Entering the course proper, the three firstnienlioned were in a line, and a fine race resulted. Wrestler was beaten at the distance, and the other pair crossed the line locked together, Emerson, on Lingerii' Betting the verdict by a nose. Wrestler was a length, away, and Moutoa Queen was fourth. Persic was a very strong favourite in the Invell handicap. But she failed to net a place after being in front for the first portion of the journey. At the start, Canainana showed out. while Ootillion not squeezed back. Two furlongs from home. Cherry Mart raced to the front, and holdin? her own, won nicely by a couple of lengths. Risingham and Pireaus finished well in the places, while the favourite was fourth. The whole of the seventeen acceptors started in the Jockey Club Handicap. It was generally voted a very open race, and six of the coutestants were evenly backed. At the start Marsa and Fiery Cross were tho first to show out. The mare soon gave way, but Fiery Cross led into the straight and won all the way. Teka and Seadown threw out strong challenges, but oould not make any impression on the chestnut gelding. They filled the minor places, just, clear of Cleft and Rorlio'a Drift, both of whom finished fast. Estland had no difficulty in winning the Canterbury Cup from his two opponents. Snub and Menclaus. Snub made most of the pace, which was slow, but Emerson was not risking trouble, and ran to the front at the six furlongs. In the straight he had to shrike up the colt to resist Jlenelaus, but the youngster easily held the New Zealand Cup winner, and , won by three lengths. Snub was beaten oft. Once again tho elder division proved their superiority in the Electric Plate, which Desert Gold won, all out, from Croesus, with Birkenvalc just clear of Bo Peep, who did not get out too well. Croesus began smartly with Birkenvale, and the nair led Desert Gold into tho. course prorer, but over the last hit the champion asserted herself and won by a good neck. Hirkenvale was three lengths away third. This was Mr. Lowry's third success in the same ro.ee. The Tlpsom High-weight Handicap nrovd quite a good thing for the Linacre ciolt Acre, who dashed to the front soon after the rise of the. barrier and led the whole way. At the straight entrance he was attended hv Black Ada. but over the last furlong Runny dimes shot out and beat Black Ada for second money. Ladoceur was fourth and then came Bed Book and Ogier.
