MAGISTRATE'S COURT

POLICE AND BY-LAW CASES. Mr. L. G. Beid, S.M., presided at tho Magistrate's Court yesterday and dealt with police and by-law oaßns.

Oonvioted of being a rogue and a vagabond, in that ho possessed insufficient lawful moans of support, Martin Johanttson was sontenced to throe mouths' imprisonment.

For insobriety Frederick A. 0. Kingaa was fined 205., in default seven days' imprisonment, and Henry Jertson 10s., with the alternative of three days' imprisonment. , William Patrick Lee was remanded for a week for medical 'treatment. Throe first ofienders tferc convicted and discharged. Joseph Hawkins, for committing a breach of his prohibition order, mm fined 2fls. and coats, and for freauenting hotels while prohibited ho waß convicted and discharged.

VEHICLE BY-LAWS. For breaches of the vehicle traffic bylaws, tho, following penalties were imposed. For driving a vehicta on the wrong sido of the plantation in ' Oourtpnay Placp. Gcorgo Baker was ordered to pay costs. William Charles Heart was ordered to pay costs 7s. for riding a motor-cycle without lights, and Frank l'ettingell. for a 6imilar offence, was fined 10s., and costs 7s.

Frederiok Clark, for boarding a -tram from the wrong side, was fiucd 10s.. and ordered to pay costs. 7s. OTHER OASES. • On the application of Mr. A. H. Hindmarsh a remand for a fortnight was granted in the charge against Joseph HayTice, second-hand dealer, for trading without a licence. Mr. Hindinarsh explained that the 'defendant was refused a licence on tho ground that his premises wore unsuitable, and the adjournment would enable him to find other premises. The Magistrate said he could hot authorise, defendant to carry on his business in the meanwhile without a licence. For oansing damage to a motor-car. E. Clarke was ilnod 205., and costs 7s.

WANDERING STOCK. For allowing stook to wander, Samuel Howan was fined 10s. and costs 75., and William Ourtis was fined 20s. and costs 7s.
