THE BABY CAMPAIGN

(To the Editor.) Sir,—The "Baby Week" campaign calls for tho highest commendation _at tho hands of all, and it must bo gratifying tho interest taken. In your report of to-day's issue of Nurse Mitchell's eddress, she said:— "Ono child that she had known of became a mental wreck because a black hood, always opened up, was constantly used, and so generated great heat, with tlio consequenco that baby's brain was affected." ~ . Now, sir, I hold that if black attracts the heat it also absorbs it, while white docs not attract but allows the heat to pass through, The peoples nearest the Equator aro tho blackest in skin and the plumage of the birds thicker. Tho Hindoo increases the folds of his head protection in summer compared with winter, admitting that to the sight white material always looks cooler. Is it so? Let any person try the difference between a black and a white alpaca coat oil a hot day, and he will be surprised at the result.
