ZOOLOGICAL SOCIETY

. The seventh annual meeting of the ■Wellington Zoological Society was held in Mr. Castle's rooms at rJewtown on Tuesday evening. Mr. T. Fathers presided, and there were several other members of the society present. The annual report, which was adopted, stated that, although it was not possible for the society to import many wild animals, and shipping accommodation for such animals is unobtainable, the 60bioty had, by exceptional circumstances, been enabled to give to tho Zoo now features of unrivalled interest. Several birds and other small animalfl were presented, by and through tho society, to the Zoo during the year, and somo hundreds of young trees, to be planted in the grounds of tho Zoo, were given by Mr. Lockwood. The balance, sheet showod the total receipts during the year to have been .£29 10s. od., and tho expenditure totalled £22 ss. 2d., leaving a credit balance of ,£7 ss. 7d. The president omphaeised the opinion that, in consequenco of the' war, for a while the meetings of the society must be few and at irregular intervals, but he expressed pleasure at the good work the society is doing, and at the use that some members are making of the Press to promote tho objects of the society. A. somewhat desultory discussion took place, in tho course of which the Zoo was praised, but some important changes in the management which are likely to be mo'ro definitely proposed iu fnturo were hinted at. Tho following were sleeted to constitute the society's executivo for the ensuing year:—Patron, Sir Robert Stout (Chief Justice of the Dominion); vicepatron, the Mayor of Wellington ,1. P. Luke, C.M.G.); president, Mr. Thomas Fathers; secretary and treasurer, Mr. John Castle; vice-presidents, Messrs. H. A. Parkinson, M.A., D. M'Laren, C. J. Lockwood, 15. Head, E. A. Wright, M.P., and R. Brown; council, Mesdamee J. Pollock, J. Castle, S. H. Underwood, Winter, the Ven. Archdeacon Devoy, S.M., Rev. J. Crewes, 'Mr. B. A. Wright, M.P., Messrs. R. H. Chinchen, 13. Collie, H. J. Crowes, A. Crosby, ¥. J. Caterer, M. G. Grenside, A It. Hornblow, A. J. Martin, R. Morri'sh, A. B. Parker, J. Pollock, S. H. Underwood, C. 11. Luke, K. Ferguson, and H. Sextou.
