The thirtieth animal report of the Now Zealand Amateur Ilowing Association, which will bo presented at the annual meeting, sivys:--Various centres have during the pax't season been able to hold inter-club races, but the only regattas of which your council hue any record are Bivertou, Bluff, and Njeniawahia. This present a striking.contrast to i)re-war times, but cannot be wondered lit- and, as long as present conditions exist, it is recognised '.hut associations and cluba-iiot only in rowing, but m all other branches of amateur eperfrhave a difficult problem set them to keep Eoine ' Men who joined rowing clubs Surfig the paßt season have in many cases now reached military, age and enKsted. The effect of this is that young men who join rowing clubs can,-at most, only get one or two seasons rowing when if tho-war continues, they must enlist; consequently the only races hat could be held under such conditions would be for youths and maidens. The council strongly «S« «-'" ;"; d clubs not to be discouraged by the pieSent position, but to look ahead, and, in «,e interests'of future rowing, encourage and afford young men ami youths every opportunity to become proficien, oaisn en. It is gratifying to note that several associations have been able to do .good work in this connexion, nod the Council desires lo «pre« ito «l>l>roc>ation of the efforts,so made. The thanks o fdination to its funds. desires to extend its sympathy » lh the relatives of those members of our Expeditionary Force who have fallen. iu the Present war. and particularly of those 3TU member' of affiliated clota, and to express the hope, also. th..t the next report of the association will be able to record the victorious ending ot the bitter fight now in progress B«ret is also expressed at the death of Mr, A. G Tell, a staunch supporter of rowing, who at times has ably coached cmvs ot rious cbhs. He also was the delegate for Marlboroußh Aesocinhon at a number of meetings of tliß_association.
