SIGNS OF CHECK TO ENEMY'S ONSLAUGHT
JTALIANS ON NEW DEFENCE LINE ENEMY'S REAR AT DIXMUDE THREATENED The latest news from the Italian front is regarded in London with a returning: feeling of optimism. The situation, still grave, is nevertheless better in hand. According to the Italian official report the enemy's onslaught has been checked at certain points. The Italians are taking up a new defence lino some SO miles west of the leonzo line, and energetic stops are being taken by Britain and France to aid their 'heavily-burdened Ally. The German official communique claims thnt the -whole of the • Italian front'on tho Isonzo has collapsed, and that the Italian 3rd Army'is hastily retreating along the Bhoree of the Adriatic. On the • Western front, the French, by their Guccessful coup on tho Flanders coast flank, are stated to havo placed the German rear at Dismude in jeopardy. ' Elsewhere along tho front there are no new developments of major import. Another manifestation of the German "war behind tho lines" is revealed by a raid on a Paris Eoyalist newspaper, and tho discovery of a Koyalist plot to disseminate disaffection amongst the masses on the food question. '
