MILITARY SERVICE BOARD
CASES HEARD YESTERDAY. There was another sitting of the Third Wellington Military Service Board yesterday. The chairman of the board is Mr. H. J. Beswick, and the other members are Messrs. M. J. Mack and A. O'L. Considine. The military representative is Captain P. Baldwin. Three months' leave of absence was granted Neil Nelson, clerk, Rintoul Street, who sought temporary exemption.
Herbert L. Faweon. photographer, Cuba Street, had his case adjourned for three months, as the board was uncertain whether it was wise to send him to camp, seeing that he had been passed CI, and was 42 years of ago. The cases of the following marine officers were adjourned sine dio: —G. G. Mabb, W. G. Foley, H. M. Hurley, K. G. Coyle, H. B. Collier, J. S. Miller, H. L. Hay, F. J. G. Warren, W. P. Percy, M. C. In the case of Private E. H. Lowe, B Coy., 31st Reinforcements, Trentham, the board had no recommendation to make.
One week's leave was recommended , for Private J. R&ndell, C Coy., 81st Reinforcements, Trentham. An appeal by .T. T. Rogereon, of Longburn Freezing Works, was adjourned for three months.
Daniel D. O. Lynch, farmer, Paraparaiimn, appealed, and an adjournment for three months wan made.
Private J. Goodyer sought temporary exemption, and was allowed till January.
The appeal of H. A. C. Dawcs, storeman, Hataitai, was dismissed, and the appellant was granted leave till January.
In the case of Peter Barker, engineer, the appeal was dismissed. Barker was granted leave to January 7.
H. J. Colson, farmer, Tai'ta, was granted leave (ill February i. Ernest Cecil Nicholls, boot dicker, Nowtown, had his case adjourned till January.
DUNEDIN SITTINGS. By Telegraph—Press Association. Dunedin, October 30. At 10-day's sitting of the Military Service' Board, Messrs. Stevenson and Cook appealed on behalf of William Hawkins, a boilermaker, who was considered an essential workman. Captain Free produced a telegram from the authorities stating the transport workers were not now considered absolutely essential. He considered that it would bo necessary to go through the papers of all those who had previously been exempted. The evidence showed that there was a shortage of boilermakcrs. A conditional eiemi)tion was granted. A conditional exemptiou whs crantrd lo Harry Hull, wool valuer, ou Hie ground Unit his services were essential to the Imperial Government's wool purchase scheme.
