TROUT FISHERIES
BETTER SUPPLY FOR WELLINGTON. _ A statement regarding the trout fishing season in .the North Island lakes was made by the Hon. G. W. Russell yesterday.
The trout fishing season in the inland lakes, he said, would commence on November 1, and all arrangements were practically complete for taking and distributing the fish. This year Rotorua Lake would not be notted! The heavy netting of this water in the last fewyears had raised the quality of the fish, and it was intended to give the lake a rest and to net Lakes Rotoiti and Tarawera. At Taupo there would be development, of the work. The fisheries at the northern end of the lake'would lie , reserved for tourists, and netting- would be confined to the southern end, from Tokaanu. Hitherto the Department had been jreatly handicapped in forwarding trout from Tokaanu owing to having to use the coaches toWaipuru. Now the new motor road to' Waimarino was being pushed on, and the fish could be carried to the line in a. few hoiiirs, instead of a day. A motor lorry had been purchased for this transport. Fish would be taken by goods train from Waimarino to Ohalume. and from there brought to Wellington by the express train, arriving here at 1.20 p.m. It would be about the middle of the month before .the arrangements would be completed, but after that the fish , would be placed on the Wellington market at a lower price than Inst vear.
