11,000 PRISONERS TO DATE

ENEMY FALLING BACK TERRIFIC BATTLE ON ITALIAN FRONT \' ' ■ 'v . ■ %AST ARMIES IN CONFLICT lu spite of the tremendous issues whioh afe pending in the mighty conflict of the huge armies on the Austro-Italian front, the brilliant success of the French operations on the Aisne continue to be the most inter- . csting feature of the wRr dispatches. Further neivs of the advance shows that the\French are following up their blow of October 23, and pressing hard on tfa wavering Germans, and ore forcing a situation which has eTery app'earanceof becoming a retreat by the enemy. Yesterday's operations yielded a further bag of 2000 prisoners, guns, and general booty, bringing the total number of prisoners oaptured since October 23 up to 11,000. On tho Austio-Italian front the enemy, to serve either a political or military end—vhich, is not yet clear—has hurled almost the whole of his array into a mijhty conflict for the advantage of position on the Iso'nzo. Eeinforced by German troops, the Austrinns have thrown the weight of a terrific attack against the Italian lines on the Bainsizza Plateau, and already claims to have made large captures of men and booty. The utmost confidence prevails on the Italian side, and great enthusiasm was displayed in the Chamber''of Deputies when the Minister of' War made a statement on the position.
