The Blackball Coal Company's Ngaherc arrived at Wellington last nigiit from Napier. The vessel had an urgent cargo to discharge at Napier, but as there was no labour available she was ordered to return to Wellington for discharge, which should bs finished in time for her to sa.il to-morrow night for Groyniouth. The Nffahero will load for Wellington. The Amokura left Woreer Bay »t 5.45 a.m. on Saturday for Cook .Strait and Nelson. She will return to port to-mor-row night or on Wednesday morning. Lord Eobert. Cecil stated in the House of Commons on August, ■.» that neutral chinning persistently engaged iu assisting our enemies would bo treated after thu war the same as eiiemy shipping. Neutral vessels lying u>) iu port would bo considered as assisting our enemies. According to London . advices the Shipping Controller has established a, conciliation committee, at whose, invitation representatives of the shipowners and seamen have been discussing the possibility of standard national rates of wages, the machinery to regulate the supply of men, and conditions of employment. The Ministry is satisfied regarding the expediency of national rates, and is prepared to create the necessary machinery. It confidently hope 6 that an agreement of all parties will be reached for the fullest cooperation in all matters affecting tho personnel of the mercantile marine.
During the storm on Thursday afternoon the steamer Watrcka, was driven aEhoro by a fierce squall at Portobelio, Dunedin Harbour. The small vessel got out of control and the anchor was dropped, but it failed to hold, and sho dragged towards the beach. Tho Waireka is not damaged in any way, and it is anticipated that there will be no difficulty experienced in refloating her. The »co»el Is owned by the Peninsula Ferry Company.
Tho Rosamond is due this morning from Greymouth with a cargo of coal and timber. She will sail to-morrow for New Plymouth.
The Koinata, which arrived on Saturday, has a cargo of coal and chaff to discharge here.
The Baden Powell arrived at Lyttclton yesterday from Pujionga. and will Bail on Tuesday for Wellington. She will probably return to the southern port. Captain Eankin joined the Karama at liTtielton on Saturday, relloTing CRtitain Williamson, who is proceeding to Wellington on holiday leave-.
The Kamnna arrived yesterday from Westport. with a cargo of coal. Tho ve». pel has been fixed to load- general cargo at. Wellington for Auckland, and will Bail about. Friday direct for that port.
