BROOKLYN METHODIST CHURCH
NEW. SUNDAY SCHOOL. The stone-placing .ceremony of a new Sunday School took place on Saturday afternoon. The Rev. ,T. G. Chapman, superintendent of the circuit, presided, speaking in commendation of the spirited enterprise to meet a pressing need. Suitable hymns were sung, and prayer offered by the Sunday school superintendent (Mr. R. Thomas). The treasurer of the Building Fund (Mr. E. dimming) read a portion of Scripture, and the chairman of Hie district (the Rev. E. Drake) spoke of John Wesley, the founder of Methodism as eminently a leader in social as well as spiritual life. The superintendent reported progress and encouragement in a spirit of gratitude and hope, mentioning that Mrs. V. R. Dennett (nee Dovey) and Mr. W. Lennie were the first teacfiera, beginning with 6ix scholars, one of whom, Harry Vile, is still on the roll. The chairman said how fitting it was that their own minister (the Rev. John H. White) had been ohosen to place the stone. Ho referred to a fine challenge of a £6 donation, if nineteen others followed suit. Thirteen having already responded, ho would be tho fourteenth that day in tho hope that p\x more would,bo quickly forthcoming. A collection on the ground yielded nearly £6, which was increased by the proceeds of afternoon tea, provided by tho ladies of the church. The day's proceeds will increase the funds by some XH. A few weeks will sob the building ready for occupation, and it is hoped that generous donors will enable its opening to bo free of debl.
