MILITARY SPORTS AT TAUKERENIKAU
At Taukerenikan on Wednesday, the Thirty-third Reinforcements held a sports tournament, which proved that this reinforcement, with only three I weeks' training, is already at a higa f standard of efficiency. A great deal of } interest in the'event was taken by officers and men, and the subscription list tfltalled ,£7O. In addition to the ordinary running events, there were over esxty teams in the squad drill,, rifle exercises, and physical drill competitions, and so eager were the men that they were practicing at 5 a.m., and when the day's training had finished. Camp training on Wednesday was suspended.'and the tournament was watched by the Camp Commandant at Featherston (Colonel Adams). The Trumpet Band played selections, and with the fine wea- ! ' ther the day was most enjoyable. The results of the events were as under :— Scmad Drill (12 men and n.c.o.).—A Coy. No. 1 team, 1; E Coy. No. 2 team and A Coy. (bantam's team), 2. Eifle Exercise (12 men and n.c.o.)—A Coy. No. 1 team, 1; A Coy. No. 2 team, B. Coy."No. 1 and 2 teams, and B Coy. No. 1 team, 2. ; Physical Drill (12 men and n.c.0.).-A Cov. No. 1 team l< A Coy.
