MILK CLEARING STATION
INFORMATION WANTED. The following is a copy of a letter which has been forwarded to the Town Clerk by Mr. .A. J. Petherick, secretary of tho Wellington Milk Vendors' Association:— '
"Dear Sir,—Be clearing house: In Ticw of the fact that a contract has been let for tho. erection of a temporary clearing house for tho milk supply of the city, my executive requests the following information for guidance of members of the association. Individual members on making inquiry havo not been able to gain any information beyond the fact that so far the walls of the building aro to he erected and that later tho council's expert will plan tho interior accommodation and equipment. No information appears yet to bo available as to the method to be adopted in handling supplies, cost of clearings and general administration in connection with the project. It is extremely unlikely that such information is not available, and no doubt those Becking the information have not applied to the right quarter. In order that the information may bn reliable and further that I may distribute the samo to my members and set their minds at rest on important aspects as. affecting their businesses will j-ou kindly'see that the following requests are replied to as soon as possible? "I. AVith reference to the provisions of tho Wellington City Milk Supply Act, 1910. (a) lias the consent of the Minister of Public Health been obtained as to tho site and plans ? (Section 6.). " (b) When is it expected that the milk station, will bo ready to receive and handlo supplies? (Section 7.). (c) What suburban milk will not he put through the milk station? (Sections S and 9.). (d) What form of warranty will the vendor receive ou delivery of supplies to him at the milk station? (0) Towhatextentwill he be entitled to testing records kept at the milk station in- the event of proceedings being taken against him for selling milk which does not comply with the provisions of the Sale of Food and Drugs Act. J!)OS? 2. (a) When will the vendor be deemed tho owner of the milk—as now, /at the railway station on which the farmer places his cans for carriage, or «t I the clearing house after the 6upply is tested? (b) What w.ill bo ths method employed at the milk station in receiving, testing, and clearing supplies? (cj What will be the cost to the public due to such method being employed? (d) What arrangements will be made for:—(a) Pnsturising milk, if such is necessary? (b) Clearing and returning vendors can? (c) Cool storage of milk tiutil delivery, Iβ takon by vendors? (<1) Period within which delivery shall bo taken by vendors? (e) Difference between amount of milk consigned by the. farmer li> the vendor, and the amount delivered by the milk station to tho vendor duo to (i) short consignments; (2) loss in milk station handling? (f) What will be tho responsibility of the council and the vendor respectively for such differences? (g) Will the milk station bo open day aiifl night to hiindlo supplies which under present conditions arrives by train at 9 a.m.. 11.30 a.m., 12.20 p'.m.. -1.17 p.m., 10.55 p.m., and a good trains arriving at liny time between 10 p.m. and 1 a.m.? (li) What arrangements will be mado for carting Lamblou. Station milk to the milk station at Thorndon, and will such ! cost be included in the general cost of j the milk station, and so be charged to the public?"
