Cornish Tunley, a, driver, was charged \ that while at the Glasgow Wharf he I disregarded a warning irom tho militarv s police, obstructed the' military police,■ B and used obscone language. Mr. 11. F. a O'Leary appeared lor (he defciuliint, who fij pleaded not guilty. Alter hearing the S evidence, the Magistrate summed up the. B position by stating that tho defendant @ had presented himself at tho wrong enla trailed or tho wharf barrier, and was i told to go lo the right one. DAMAGING A MOTOR-CAB. Juuic-s 11. "Wood aud Fred Green pieade<l guilty to damaging a. motor-car. Inspector "Marsnck stated that the'defendants commandeered a motor-car lo get i' cheap joy, ride. In starting the car they caused damage to it to the extent of £>. It was not suggested thai: what they did was anything more than a practical'joke, but such practical jokes were becoming too frequent in. the city. Tho damage had been made good to the owner. Each of the defendants was fined J!2 and costs in default seven days' imprisonment.
OTHER CASES. Claude F. Adams, convicted of riding a motor cycle in Lainbton Quay at on excessive speed, and knocking down a tram conductor, was fined .£5 and costs, in ,default one month.
Joseph George Morris was also charged with riding a motor cycle at an excessive speed in Riddii'oi'd Street, whereby n woman was knocked down and injured. Mr. P. W. Jackson appeared for the defendant. Lengthy evidence was taken, and the Magistrate recorded a conviction and fined the defendant M ond costs, iu default one month's imprison* uient.
Ferris Dole was convicted and ordered to pay 7s. costs l'or riding a motor cycle without a light.
A fine of JOs. and costs was imposed on James Pettet for allowing a ;no'.:oicycle to stand in the street without, sufficient light.
Lan Taylor was fined liOs. and cosls lor driving nis motor-car at an excessive speed.
Jacic S. Mitchell was fined 40s. and costs for riding a motor cycle on the Hult cycle track. For driving on the wrong side of ll.e Courtenay- Place plantation, William Smith was fined 2i)s. nnd costs. EMPLOYING A RESERVIST. . Frank 11. Phillips, until recently licensee oi' the New Zealauder llorel, was charged with employing a reservist contrary to tho Military Service Act. Mr. H. F. O'Loary appeared for tlieylet'endant. It was shown in evidence. I hat Phillips had questioned all his male employees of military age as to being registered, and tho reservist in qneinon said he had been registered and wiis wearing the badge of an unlit recruit. When asked to prodtico his enrolment certificate the man could not do so. He was told by Phillips that it would have to bo produced, and was directed to tho Government Statistician's office. A iew days later, when a-sked if he had the certificate, iie Veplie<l in the affirmative. The,. Magistrate iicld that sufficient precaution had not been taken to ascertain whether the man was enrolled, aud imposed the minimum penalty of .£2O and costs. *
SHOPKEEPERS FINED. For Sunday trading, Jessie Atcheson, Hannah ICaranizc (sale of a bottle of oysters), and M. Moston (sale of two pennyworth of lollies) were each fined 20s. and costs, in default seven days* imprisonment. William- Henry Corneal, George ]•'. Nash, and Gilbert 11. Pvite, tobacconists, were each fined 20s. and co.sts, in default eeven days' imprisonment, for keeping their shops op.'ii after. lO.Sfl p.m. on a Saturday. W. Hum, a Chinaman (trading,as W.
