■A NIGHT ON LOCAL BILLS
; THE HUTT ROAD ■ The Legislative Council met yesterday »t 2.30 p.m. ■ Leave of absenco for threa' davs was f ranted to tho Hon. AV. D. H. Baillie. ir Francis Bell, in moving for tho leave, said that Mr. Baillie had just received news of the death of his son, who had been killed in notion. All tho Councillors would desiro to convey to tho venerable senior member of their Chamber their sorrow and sympathy. A communication was received from the House of Representatives reporting that the House had disagreed with some amendments made in tho Sale of Linuor ■Bestriction Bill. .
_SIK.ER-ANCIS'BELL moved that the Council should insist upon its amend-' monts, and Hint the Hons. J. G. W. Aitkon, ,1. MucGregor, 0. Samuel, and the mover should bo a committeo to draw up reasons for insistence. The Hon. 0. SAMUEL said ho thought it nndesirablo that ho should sit on tho committee, sinco ho was wholly hostilo to the Bill.
Sir Francis Bell said ho would substitute tho name of the Hon. E. K. Simpson for that of JJr. Samuel. The Hon. .T. BAEE said that constitutional practice required that the members of the committeo should be supporters of the Bill. The motion was' carried. LOAN BILL. The War Purposes Loan Bill (No. 2), adding .£1,000,000 to tho war loan authorities for the current financial year, was received from tho House of Eepresentatives. The Bill was put through all its stages and passed. The Council adjourned until 2.30 p.m. to-day. ■
