SOCIAL HYGIENE BUREAU
HOSPITAL BOARD WILL HELP FINANCIALLY. The request of tile Social Hygiene Society lor financial aid for a bureau winch it is proposed to establish to advise women respecting venereal diseases, came before yesterday's meeting of the Wellington Hospital Board. The chairman moved that the'-matter should be referred to the five lady members of the board, and that the board should agree to finance-the matter up to 25 per cent, of the expense. The board, he said, would be willing to finance a thing of this kind, as was being done in Christchurch. If it only cost 25 per cent., the expense to the board would be very little, and a very great deal would probably be saved.' Mr. M'Ewaii said it was evident that the matter should bo put in the hands of a strong body. Mrs. M'V'icar mentioned a matter of getting the Hon. Mr. Rus«ell to explain his Bill in the Town Hall. The chairman said -Mrs. M'Vicar must Jeavo the Bill out of the question. She must not bring in politics. Sho oould fight the disease, not bring in the matter of the Bill. Mrs. Aitken did not think it was necessary to bring Mr. Eussell into tho matter at all. Mrs. M'Vicar: But are you in favour of it? Mrs. Aitken: Certainly not. Mrs. M'Vicar: Then we are divided. On the motion of Mr. F. Castle it was resolved: "The board agree to support the request to establish a bureau and finance it to the same extent as tho Christchurch bureau is financed by tbe Christchurch Hospital ■ Board, and that the lady members of the board be asked to represent the board at the commiiee's first meeting." This was carried.
