STATEMENT BY MR. BONAR LAW, ATTACKS TO BE MADE ON GERMAN TOWNS • ■ London, Ootober 17. Mr. Bonar Law, questioned in the House as to whether reprisals were to be deferred until tho Air Ministry was established, replied, "No. General Smuts has clearly stated the Government's policy. The French Staff learns that Germany is 6training every nerve in anticipation of America's new air' squadrons and the Allies' spring air offensive. Quantities of throo-sentar aSO-horse-power bombing machines are being built, capable of carrying 18cwt. of bombs, and olimbisg 12,000 feet in 35 minutes. Aeroplanes, new models of every type, are being feverishly produced. These inclwlo a now machine, all metal, for co-operation with the infantry. GERMAN PRESS BECOMING, NERVOUS Berne, October 17. Several of the German, newspapers significantly express doubt as to the wisdom of air raids on open towns. Paris, October 17. Jardin, a French aviator, after participating in an nir raid on Frankfort, proceeded to Essen on his own initiative, and dropped ten bombs. On his return, owing to a mist, ho landed in Switzerland, and was interned—Aus.N.Z. Cable Assn.
