KAISER'S DREAM OF WORLD POWER
TRAIL OF THE WAR INTRIGUE
MORE REVELATIONS
London, October 15. Mi. Henry Morgenthau, former American Ambassador to Turkey, has made remarkable disclosures in the New York "World." Mr. Morgentliau says that there is direct evidence that the Kaiser "willed" tho war. and caused it when it suited his purpose and his preparations. "Tho Marquis of Pallavicini, Austrian Ambassador to Turkey, told me on August 18, 1914," stales Mr. Morgenthau, "that the Austrian Emperor bad informed him in May that war was inevitable. Baron Wangenheim, the German Ambassador to Turkey, in an outburst of enthusiasm, after the arrival of tho Goebeit and the Bresluu in the Dardanelles, told me that a conference had been held in Berlin early in July, 1914. at which the date tor the war was fixed. Tho Kaiser was present at tlie conference, at which were also Baron Wanganheim, General von Moltke (German Chief of Staff), Admiral von Tirpitz (head of the German Admiralty), and a few selected lenders of German finance and industry. The Kaiser asked them if they were ready for war, and all replied in the affirmative, except tho financiers, who said thev must have a fortnight in which to sell securities and arrange loans. Aftc-r that the financiers wero feverishly and secretly busy, while tho Army marked time. AH the great Stock Exchanges experienced an acute depression, as German-owned stocks were quietly pushed upon the market. "Baron Wangenheim told me that next time Germany would be even more far-sighted, and. would have at least fivo years' supplies of copper and cotton before striking." Mr. Morgenthau later learned that if Germany was victorious she intended to attack America, on the. ground that she supplied munitions to tiie Allies. She would enforce an indemnity which would make Gcrmnny the richest nation in the world. He had. beaTd the sum fixed at fifty billion marks. Tho Kaiser was for years obsessed with tho dream of being the centre of a great moving picture directing and controlling the destinies of the world. Prince Henry of Prussia was sent to America to consolidate the German strength in the United States. Germany's mastery of tho situation in Turkey was so complete that she dictated the postponement of Turkey's entry into j tho war until a powerful wireless plant in Constantinople had been completed j and guns and munitions brought to Tur- j key.—Aus.-N.Z- Cable Assn.
