GRIM PROSPECT FACING THE 1 ENEMY ' , (l?ee. October 15, 7.30 p.m.) London, October H. I'resh information regarding the economic situation in Germany indicates that the position there is becoming j worse. The com crops have failed, ana j tho outlook for oats nnd barley is bad. i The 1917 harvest is 40 per cent, below I normal rears. A certain, amount is ex- ! pected from the Rumanian granaries, but the failure of the fodder crops is seriously affecting the breeding industry i and_ milk supply. The price of bread is beginning to double, and the weekly meat ration, has been reduced to half a pound. Trade and industry are practically at a S standstill. The publication of the vital statistics has been suppressed, owing to the alarming figures. Conditions in Außtro-Jlußgary are infinitely worse.— •! Renter. ;
