GOVERNMENT GRANTS .£20,000 FOR STRIKE DISTRESS RELIEF. By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, October 14. t A message from Sydney, dated Octobcr 5, says tbat reports of great distress among the families out of work are being disseminated from the Trades Hall, end an organised appeal for publio assistanco is being made. The public, it is said, are not viewing the matter very kindly. Food is being distributed from the Trades Hall. All day long a stream of poor, poverty-stricken women flows through the building. One day, it is estimated, 12(H) persons, mostly women, obtained relief. The Acting-Premier has announced in the House that the Government had decided to vote .£'20.(100 for relief throughOut New South Wales.
