Advice lias been received by Mrs. George Butler, of The Terrace, that her eon, Alric, who left with the Sixteenth Reinforcements, iras wounded in tno head in the last advance. Sergeant Butler wae with the Vacuum Oil Company prior to enlisting. Sergeant B. P. ("Dick") Pwry. «ra of Mr. J. P. Perry, of Sulphur Wells. Masterton, has beeji wounded in action. Mr J H. G. Rowley, of the firm of Messrs Rowley and Gill, is at present to a private hospital with a rather serious illness.

Before leaving New Zealand he was operated on for appendicitis, and it was due to inflammation of tho tissues that he viae invalided. The latest report of him is satisfactory. Corporal W. H. Poraythe, of the Christchurch Defence Staff, has received word that his brother, Sergeant V. Forsythe, died of wounds on September 30. He left New Zealand with the 4th Reinforcements, being attached to the No. 5 Bafct»rv and served on Galhpoli, while he was among the first New Zcalanders to go to France. He was wounded at Alessines but rejoined after being in hospital for a month. Sergeant Forsythe, who was 27 vears of ago and unmarried, was a 'member of the.clerical staff of the Christchurch Tramway Board. • Mr A. E. Hyman, manager of the "Lvttelton Times" Company, vhoste health has been unsatisfactory lately, has been ordered a lengthy holiday by his doctor, and will leavo shortly for Australia. He will spend six months there During his absence Mr. Jtobert Bell, proprietor of the Ashburton Guardian," will act as manager of the Lyttelton Times."
At Lambton Qnay Police Station yesterday afternoon Mr. Denis M'Kinley was presented with a pipe and n pocketbook on the occasion of his leaving the Force to go into camp. The presentation was made by Constable John Fofsyth oil behalf of the Lambton inombers of the Force. Mr. M'Kinley has joined the Thirty-fourth Roinfqrcemcnts. Mr and Mrs. William "Wood, of Chrisfcluifch, are staying at (ho Royal Oak Hotel.
Mv. K.-M. Baird, telegraph-engineer for the Auckland district, died on Sunday, aged 59- The late Mr. Baird was torn in Tasmania and joined tho Post and Telegraph Department at Wellington nearly dO years ajro. As assistant engineer ho was closely associated with the maintenance of the Cook Strait and other New Zealand -.submarine cables, antt superintended tho laying of the cab e to the Great Barrier Island. In 1891 he was promoted (to lie telegraph engineer at. Auckland, rice Mr W. S. Turby retired), and amongst other works in that district he (superintended tho laying ot the Pacific Cnblo Board's overland cablefrom the West Coast to Takapuna, with a loop to the Auckland offices of the board. In his younger days Mr Hiurd was a prominent figure in the establish; ment of the Post and Telegraph Officer* Association newspaper, "The Katipo, being chairman of the Management Committeo for some years.
